Visiting Professor of Linguistics
Ohio University, Department of Linguistic
The Department of Linguistics invites applications for a full-time 1 year Visiting Professor. We are a dynamic linguistics department specializing in Applied Linguistics at both the undergraduate and graduate levels with a solid theoretical foundation. The department prepares students for professional jobs and advanced study in the field but specializes in training instructors in TESOL, TEFL, and TELT at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Linguistics department also offers language programs in Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Swahili.
The Visiting Professor position consists of the following duties:
- Teach Linguistics courses in the BA Linguistics and MA Applied Linguistics/MTESOL
programs which will consist of but are not limited to Second Language Acquisition, and
Technology Enhanced Language Teaching. - Direct the Technology Enhanced Language Teaching Certificate
- Manage U.S. State Department granted MOOC
This Visiting Professor position is a full-time, nine-month position for the academic year 2025-2026 (from August 16, 2025, to May 15, 2026).
Minimum Qualifications:
- ABD in Linguistics specializing in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) or related field by the start date of the position.
1) University-level experience teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in one or more of the following areas: Second Language Acquisition, Technology Enhanced Language Teaching, and TESOL Methods and Materials.
2) Experience with and skill in teaching using digital modes of instruction
3) Highly advanced English language proficiency
4) Proficiency in or experience studying a second language
Preferred Qualifications:
•PhD in Applied Linguistics specializing in either Second Language Acquisition (SLA), Technology Enhanced Language Teaching, Computational Linguistics or a related field. Research experience in SLA, Technology Enhanced Language Teaching, or a related field and more than one publication in one of these areas. Also:
1) Experience teaching and conducting research with both domestic and international undergraduate and graduate students
2) Experience teaching language and/or pedagogy abroad
3) Experience teaching language and/or pedagogy to undergraduates
4) International travel or overseas living experience
5) Experience with grant-funded programs and the delivery of online programs
